Role Overview The Director Threat Research (technology and simulation) is a leader within the Counter Threat Unit Special Operations team responsible for guiding senior threat researchers focused on investigating and creating technology, tools, and processes used to detect and respond to sophisticated cyber threats. The team works closely with detection researchers, incident responders and software engineering teams to ensure maximum application of Secureworks threat knowledge is applied to our leading products and services. Role Responsibilities Represent team research in collaboration with other organizations across Secureworks to include Software engineering, Product Management, Security Operations, and Security and Risk Consulting practices. Develop and contribute to the strategic planning process including the development of Objectives and Key Results at the organization and team level. Establish a cohesive team culture that embraces new and challenging problems, values diverse opinions and works together to achieve results. Guide and enable senior members of the threat research team providing ample room for individual and team creativity while maintaining alignment with corporate objectives. Assess team and individual performance against expected outcomes and provide actionable performance coaching where necessary. Participate in cross team initiatives as a leader and representative of the research team. Minimum Requirements Minimum of 10 years of experience in one or more of the following areas: Security Research, Incident Response, Red Team engagements, or Cyber Risk Management. Minimum of 5 years of experience managing research or security consulting team. Preferred Skills Strong technical communication skills (oral and written) and client demeanor, including experience briefing executive management and a desire to work with customers and teammates to solve complex cybersecurity challenges. Excellent interpersonal communication skill with ability to convey complex ideas and guide tenuous interactions toward a positive outcome. Strong understanding of cyber threat actor intrusion techniques and technology used to perform detection, investigation, and remediation tasks. Experience leading geographically diverse teams consisting of highly creative career level security experts in a fully remote capacity. Proven track record in developing/cultivating strong inter and intra team culture focused on company success.
